13 years have passed since the night of September 18, when Golden Dawn member Roupakias (and his neo-Nazi colleagues) murdered, the anti-fascist activist Pavlos Fyssas in the neighborhood of Keratsini in Athens, is only one of many cases of numerous violent attacks by fascists and neo-Nazi organizations or individuals that have turned into murder. The fascists will put into their target any individual or group who does not belong to their worldview or even threatens their nazi ideal such as militants, immigrants and more; thereby revealing their true colors of bigotry and their social-political agenda. When capitalism is in crisis and becoming more and more violent, the self-proclaimed rulers of the land will play the card of fascism, which will point the tip of the sword at the angry people. When the baton of the cop is not long enough, the fascist’s knife will be there.
The role of Golden Dawn, NSU, Boot Boys and many more fascists/neo-nazi formats is to serve the Capital and the ruling class of each country (sometimes even internationally!) against any kind of self-organized struggle. In many cases, the state puts the Nazis on the side, perhaps imprisoning them momentarily, never too much though, only a couple of heads until the popular rage calms down. While doing so, the deep mechanisms of the state and ruling class are already working on the next format/organization which will take upon this role. For example, the executive head of Golden Dawn Ilias Kasidiaris has just been released after 6 years and he is planning to continue. The state never wants to have a bad relationship with their golden boys! Who else would speak so much about the corruption of the system, and about the livelihood of the working people, while at the same time supporting (with any form of violence) the capitalist system so fiercely, crashing down every social acquisition won by the movements. Their role is also important in the destruction of the social/class conscience, that’s why they are fighting us at this point with everything they have. That’s why we ought to fight them, not in elections, not in courts but on the streets, so we can boot down the fascist snake, from the political scene and personal life.
Fascism corresponds to the wet dream of the bourgeois state, the faulty “separate powers” of the bourgeois democracy crumble under the pretext of an ideological doctor who will save the people from the so-called sickness of times. The human substance even by their standards gets diminished (not that they ever lacked.); militants and marginalized groups find the same tragic end, while the capitalists and their proud supporters are left to roam the land like wild beasts, consuming everything in their way. It is then, when their true face comes out, when the false idols of populism fall under, the capitalist class benefits, in the most horrible way.
And the next day the State becomes the sole source of indoctrination, how you are living your life, who you love, who you hate, which is your god and which is your master. But we have NO GODS AND NO MASTERS. The state will try to expropriate everything from each social space, over the victories of any class war ever fought, while creating the pretext of national unity between oppressed and oppressors. After all, fascism is just a tool for when the ruling class feels that the power is sliding off their hands.
The state, the power of Capital and Patriarch, become the pillars of Capitalism. They use the Fascists sometimes in pogroms attacking us, other times as ministers in fancy suits. We ought to be wary of all of them. They exist from the police units, to FRONTEX, to Aegean costal guards, and the fascism stops being a group of “terrorists”, they become institutes, they get awards and they share a table with the most moderate and “progressive” right. And day by day you can see the moderate right to shift, the whole perspective to change, fascists propaganda to play on the noon TV news, objectifying, quantifying and forgetting the thousands of bodies on the bottom of the Mediterranean sea, hidden well under some fancy research papers about inclusion and racial understatement in the buildings of Brussels.
It’s important to not forget that the actual pillars that hold the base of the state are the same that the pigs of fascism use. The same mechanisms of oppression for their own interest to base their structure and ideology. Religion, Nation and Patriarchy are used in excess with different manifestations each time. Meanwhile the rhetoric can be antisystemic and worker friendly a lot of times! In order to radicalize, towards the far right, the oppressed (but conservative) individuals submit to the fascist organization and to the systemic mechanisms developed to enslave them, work together and support it fanatically. (What a contradiction!)
Another apparent usage that the state can have for its fascist hand is terror. The “progressive” people shall fear the fascists and their only chance to avoid it is to lay down in front of neoliberalism. Vote for the system! Support the next best thing! The state stabilized, the masks dropped, the neoliberals won again and saved the day against the fascists, now the second can lay low until next time they are useful. They are needed to wash away the negative publicity of the parties and if the contradictions of capitalism enlarge even more and the people submerge into poverty, individualism and fear they grow only stronger and may get a bit of the pie. This way is how the fascist terror can also be used impeccably by the neoliberal state in order to produce the need for social unity, which translates to fiercer and harshest oppression and control.
At this point, we should not forget the best friend of the state and authoritarianism, the fourth form of power. The media have always vested interests between them and the State. And it can be easily observed(ex. Barrosso), it’s the media which will defend until last call the fascists. Even in cases where Capital turned down its fascist arm, the media were there to play their role and make the pigs into martyrs.
As a lot of points were mentioned, we should focus on praxis, we should aim on fighting fascists in the streets, on our work places, on our universities because only collectively we can tear down the fascist monster and not fall for the fake action of bourgeois democracy. We should turn the fear, the individualism, the powerlessness and the misery of our lives against the real guilt. The only Harold of oppressive capitalism can be the class united and self organized fight that comes from the base and can organize the worldwide social revolution and bring us closer into a world of equality, freedom and solidarity.
